In the general case, yes. Our research found that Sunnova-era, SunPower-era and PosiGen-era production guarantees generally continued rather than being wiped out, because the agreements were transferred to new owners and servicers instead of discharged. That is a general finding, not a ruling on your contract, so check your own paperwork.
Why they generally continued
Per our research, obligations moved either through bankruptcy court-approved asset sales (often called section 363 sales) or, for SunPower, through a 2019 assignment to SunStrong that predated the bankruptcy. Neither is a discharge of the obligation. The research describes this as applying to the majority of outstanding leases and PPAs.
The edge case
On June 4, 2026, a Delaware bankruptcy court dismissed a motion in the SunPower case (the Kosydar motion) for lack of jurisdiction. It did not rule on whether specific leases had been assigned before the bankruptcy filing. Our research reads this as leaving a small residual risk for leases that were never assigned, to be resolved case by case in state court. It affects a minority of homeowners.
What homeowners report
Servicers have not been proactively paying shortfalls. Complaint records on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) describe SunStrong Management refusing or ignoring reimbursement requests, and offering lease-term extensions instead of reimbursement. Some Sunrun customers report being told they qualified for a refund and later told they did not. These are reports from complaint records, not findings about any one contract. If you are told your guarantee does not apply, you can ask for the specific contract provision in writing.
