How long does a solar production guarantee claim take?

Short answer: there is no official timeline, because none of SunStrong, Sunrun or Renewbrook publishes a dedicated production-guarantee claims process. Here is what our research found about realistic response times and when to push harder.

Last reviewed: September 30, 2026. Facts on this page rest on GuaranteeCheck research checked on September 23, 2026.

Why there is no official answer

None of the three servicers who now handle most orphaned SunPower, Sunnova and PosiGen leases — SunStrong Management, Sunrun or Renewbrook — publishes a dedicated, documented process for submitting or resolving a production-guarantee shortfall claim. That means there is no stated SLA (service-level agreement) and no official “expect a response within N business days” commitment to point to. Any timeline below is a pattern inferred from public complaint histories, not a published guarantee.

What our research found, by servicer

ServicerWhat to expectWhen to escalate
SunStrong ManagementTypically responds with an offer of a lease-term extension rather than a cash refund. No stated response-time commitment.Roughly 30 days of no substantive response is a reasonable point to file a BBB complaint — a channel with a demonstrated track record for this servicer.
SunrunFor BrightBuy agreements with Protection Plus coverage, the refund is contractually automatic rather than claim-based — so “how long” is really “why hasn't the automatic payment I was already owed arrived.” See the Sunrun refund guide.Same rough 30-day benchmark applies before escalating, based on patterns in Sunrun's public complaint history.
RenewbrookRenewbrook took over PosiGen's portfolio in February 2026 and does not yet have an established complaint history to draw a pattern from.No equivalent benchmark exists yet. Try Renewbrook Servicing's email first, then Renewbrook Energy by phone if that stalls. See the Renewbrook page.

What to do while you wait

Keep a copy of whatever you sent (email, form submission or letter) and the date you sent it. If you used GuaranteeCheck's free diagnostic to generate a claim letter, that dated copy is itself useful documentation if you need to escalate later. A written record matters more here than it would with a servicer that has a formal claims desk, precisely because none of these three does.

Why it matters

Knowing there is no official clock running means you do not need to wonder whether you missed a deadline — there isn't one published to miss. It also means persistence (a documented follow-up, then an escalation like a BBB complaint) is doing real work here, not just paperwork. Read how to check whether your guarantee was met first if you have not already run the numbers.
